Gosport & Fareham RFC carried out a sponsored cycle ride from Gosport, Hampshire to Kingston Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in aid of the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust. Leaving Gosport on Friday 21st December 2007, the cyclists soon realised that this was definitely the wrong time of year to be cycling north as the temperature plummeted as low as –6 degrees centigrade during the Friday night. Still we ploughed on regardless, riding in a 10-mile leg system all the way, finally arriving in Newcastle city centre at approximately 2.30a.m. on the Sunday (23rd Dec) morning. Due to the weather, we stopped in a Sainsbury’s car park and got some well deserved kip before breakfast and the final 8 miles through to Kingston Park which is situated north of the city. Upon arrival in Newcastle, we all watched the Newcastle Falcons play Gloucester and enjoyed the 2 for 1 offer on Guinness, before meeting many of the players after the game. Many thanks to those who kindly sponsored this event, photo’s can be seen below.
